Watching Subconscious Programs in Motion

The Canadian trucker convoy has held my attention so closely these past few days.  I find often checking social media to see the latest as I know I am watching history in the making and there is massive potential for better times ahead.  Looking at both sides, of the issue I couldn't help but notice the similarities to the human mind.

At the risk of sounding like an oversimplification, the truckers (and the thousands of people they support) are demonstrating that they have the right to choose what happens to their bodies without losing their civil liberties.  The government says they do not.

To the benefit of the truckers, they have the experience of living in a country to date that has always afforded them their civil liberties despite what they chose to do or not to do with their bodies.  It is a reasonable expectation if you will.  This is in spite of the fact that the cases of heart disease, Diabetes, and poor mental health are higher in North America than in any other place in the world which puts an incredible pressure on our healthcare system.  The trucker’s experience has always been that they are responsible for doing what they can to prevent such conditions with minimal support of our healthcare system.  In fact, there are very few proactive programs to prevent these conditions.

This sets a clear precedent then, that people are free to do as they wish with their own health.  Imagine the trucker’s surprise when now they will need to surrender their control over their health or risk their ability to put food on our table and theirs.  The fear and anger was quick and strong.  To threaten one’s ability to provide at the expense of a former secure freedom is 100% a primal trigger.  Now, thousands of truckers are on their way to Ottawa to negotiate the release of their historically held freedoms. They do this in the spirit of all people with similar experience worldwide.

To the benefit of the federal government, we created it with the expectation of protecting our life and liberty.  We have fought several wars in the name of our country to prove this.  In this sense, it will do anything it needs to in order to fulfill this obligation.  This is a massive job on a global scale.  In order to do this efficiently, it has many “autopilot programs” that run in the background.  It is, in essence, a subconscious mind all on it’s own.  For the most part, this system has been created in good faith and up until this pandemic, it has served us true to our nature.  However, disease has a way of showing us our weakest programs.  These outdated programs are updated when we decide we’ve had enough suffering.  The current old program has an “all in” approach because it started as an emergency situation.

Like PTSD, unfortunately this system stayed stuck in emergency mode. Think lock down, mandates, masks, etc.  All things implemented to preserve life and it likely did in the short term as it was meant to do.  Fast forward two years and we are seeing the long-term effects of implementing a program meant for short term use.

Like any system, emergency mode is meant for 1% of it’s existence.  That is because when we react in emergency mode (stress, fight/flight response) we reroute everything toward the systems that keep us alive in the moment and away from the systems that keep us healthy.  So, here is our old program stuck on damage control and creating overall dis-ease in it’s wake. Reversing course is unthinkable.  Their number one job is to protect us.  To change course admits perhaps a weakness.  Weakness is not an option in government.  In the case where a large group of people oppose the program, the government shifts it’s original intention of "speaking" on behalf of the people to "doing" on behalf of the people for their own safety.  Without total buy in, their system collapses and that is not the job we gave them.  It stands to reason then, to expect that they will do everything in their power to “protect” the whole even when it comes at the expense of “a few”.

I have to say that I thought right away how nice it would be nice to just get in there and change the program like we do in Hypnotherapy.  The trick would be first to make them aware that the program needs replacing.  Anyone who has tried quitting smoking, knows they need to be ready to do it.  They are ready when they become aware that the old program no longer works in harmony with their current life experience.  The discomfort created is undeniable.

I can’t help but think that 50,000 truckers, representing millions of Canadians and people around the world, rolling into Ottawa, are going to be a little uncomfortable for the system.  If that isn’t awareness for our government, then I don’t know what it will take.  It’s time to change this crucial program in our government for the long-term health of our country and get back to living again in unity.  I hope both sides can open the wider perspective and bring conscious, critical thinking back into play.  It might be the start of real, long lasting, healthy change for our country.  This could be a massive positive shift for millions of people with no place for blame, just opportunity for positive change.  How about that for having your cake and eating it too?!  Just shift the perspective and create a future for our country that is inclusive and true again to who we all are as Canadians and human beings.  The world is watching.  Let’s do this, Canada.
